Getting to Campus WU

The campus sits between the Prater park and the Messe, on the U2 line. Two stations serve it — Messe-Prater on the west side and Krieau on the east — and the Library & Learning Center stands in the middle of campus, five to ten minutes' walk from either.

Before you plan your route: Vienna's S-Bahn trunk line between Hauptbahnhof and Praterstern is closed for construction from 7 September 2026 until autumn 2027. In practice: the S7 from the airport no longer reaches Wien Mitte or Praterstern — it terminates at St. Marx — and the City Airport Train currently runs as a bus. Take the REX7 or a railjet to Hauptbahnhof instead. The U-Bahn is unaffected.

From Vienna Airport (VIE) — about 50 minutes

1. REX7 or railjet to Wien Hauptbahnhof. 16–20 minutes. Trains run from early morning until around midnight. A ticket covering both fare zones is €5.50.

2. U1 towards Leopoldau to Praterstern. Six stops, about nine minutes.

3. U2 towards Seestadt to Messe-Prater or Krieau. One or two stops. Both are campus entrances.

From Wien Hauptbahnhof — about 25 minutes

1. U1 towards Leopoldau to Praterstern. Six stops, about nine minutes. Follow the U1 signs down from the station concourse.

2. U2 towards Seestadt to Messe-Prater or Krieau. Praterstern is a single interchange — the U2 platforms are one level up.

From elsewhere in the city — about 20 to 30 minutes

• Get onto the U2 anywhere between Karlsplatz and Seestadt and ride towards Seestadt. From Westbahnhof or Wien Mitte, take the U3 to Volkstheater and change there.

• On the surface: bus 82A stops at Südportalstraße and Welthandelsplatz, right at the campus edge, and tram 1 stops at Prater Hauptallee, a short walk away.

Tickets

Vienna is one flat fare zone: a single ticket is €3.20 (€3.00 in the WienMobil app), a 24-hour ticket €10.20, a weekly ticket €28.90. The 48- and 72-hour tickets were withdrawn in January 2026. Tickets must be validated before you board; the airport journey needs the extra zone, which the €5.50 fare above already covers. If you are here for all three days, the 24-hour ticket pays for itself at three rides a day.

Finding the two rooms

Campus WU is a cluster of seven buildings. The Library & Learning Center (LC) is the angular building with the long cantilever on the picture at the top of the page. Both conference rooms are inside it.

LC.0.004 Galerie, ground floor. Monday: welcome, the opening keynote, half the demos and the early-afternoon contributed talks.

LC.2.400 Clubraum, 2 floor. Monday: coffee breaks, the other half of the demos and the poster session. Tuesday: All sessions.

Registration opens 8:30 on Monday in the Galerie. 

Coffee, lunch and the evenings

Coffee breaks are provided in the Clubraum. Lunch is not, but the campus is well supplied. Everything below is on the campus and only a few minutes' walk from the LC.

• Lia Café: light meals, snacks, proper coffee directly in the LC

• Mensa: Austrian cooking, pasta, pizza, salad and vegetable buffet; the cheapest hot lunch on campus

• Baschly: Middle eastern cooking, open late; food to go at lunchtime (11:30–15:00)

• Das Campus: schnitzel, goulash, dumplings and Mediterranean dishes, sit-down

• SPAR: supermarket with sandwiches, hot counter, coffee to go

• Finn: international menu, changing weekly lunch specials

• Anker: bakery and snacks, open early

Practical notes

• Getting online. eduroam covers the whole campus, and it is the simplest option by far. If your institution is not part of eduroam, we can give you credentials for a WU guest account. 

• Accessibility. The campus and the LC are step-free, with lifts to every level and accessible toilets on each floor. If you need anything specific — reserved seating, a quiet space between sessions, dietary arrangements — tell us in advance and we will arrange it.

• While you are here. The Prater — the big wheel, the funfair and several kilometres of woodland paths — starts a few minutes from campus, and the Messe and the Danube are both within walking distance. The city centre is fifteen minutes away on the U2 and U1.

• In an emergency. 112 reaches all emergency services anywhere in Austria, in English.
